EU future tops agenda as Germany’s Merkel hosts France’s Macron

Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Berlin on his first day as France’s president to hold talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

France and Germany have had strong ties for decades and both have played a major part in shaping the European Union.

But as Europe sees a rise in political support for the far-right, Merkel and Macron aim to boost ties and bring social, political and economic reforms.
